2025 Seniors Access Conference - June 14

Another amazing Seniors Conference was held on June 14, 2025. Hosted by South Peace Seniors Access Service Society and held at the Dawson Creek Seniors Hall about 60 people were treated to a great day. The hall was brightly decorated in green and yellow table covers and flower baskets from Hillside Gardens.

After registration and coffee, the  conference was opened by MC Joe Judge.  He had everyone engaged with his quips and jokes as he kept the event moving along smoothly.

Dan Levitt was the keynote speaker for the day.  The BC Seniors Advocate’s presentation focussed current issues for seniors.  He brought a positive perspective along with the reality of concerns. Ageism is an issue overlooked by many and he urged seniors to call it what it is when we see it. From his presentation: Next Steps

  • Increasing public awareness and education
  • Encouraging all levels of government to ensure laws and policies protect and enable older people
  • Implementing education and training to ensure health care providers are promoting age-inclusive practices
  • Creating opportunities for positive intergenerational activities and programs

He reminded us that the Rolling Stones are seniors!

During the question and answer period, he listened when local seniors expressed concerns and assured them he was taking those concerns seriously.

Jordana Anderson from Deep Physio got everyone moving with her stretches and sit/stand exercise break.

Excellent food, prepared by Beans and Barley, was enjoyed for coffee break and lunch.  The creamy corn chowder and spicy curry chicken soup were a perfect fit for a rainy day. The egg salad sandwiches proved to be a favourite.  Thank you to Elda, Maxine and Sylvia for keeping everyone served.

The day wrapped up with door prize and raffle draws.
